14th August and a naive Pakistani!

14th August, it is said that on this very day in 1947, a country named Pakistan–land for pure– came into being. It is also said that it was decided as well as wished that all the people living here will enjoy their freedom.

As it was a new country and a nation with precise history, so a new history was created by the ‘scholars’ of this new land of pure. Thus, the focus in this history was partial to our enemies. However, the description was vague, so the enemies have changed time by time, according to benefits. But, according to this history, the closest neighbors are the harshest enemies.

As Pakistan was in danger from the neighbor so a great focus was given to army (ashab-e-badar type) who were pure, pious and righteous in their outward as well as inward character. They have defended our country at each and every possible way from the enemy with valor and courage. It is not only battle field rather they have been running the country and her affairs for the last seven decades. They are so sincere in their patriotism that they even check and balance the curriculum of the schools. So, the books which are taught in our schools are simple and full with patriotism.

For those teachers who haven’t been exposed to books, these books act as a source of entertainment for them; but those who have some exposure to books, they feel a little bit hesitant that how can the history of such a great nation can be so simple? It is because of our army that we have won four wars against our enemy. If it were not present in Bengal (now Bangladesh) the Indians would have raped the women, disgraced the old and massacred the children.

Our politicians claim a lot of things that they have done this and that for the country but the reality is that they haven’t even been able to rule the country for ten consecutive years. It is our army who has always come to save the country for the larger interest of the country. It was our army who fought during the independence moment at different battle fields.

In fact if someone denies the sacrifice of our army he/she might be considered as someone who can also be unthankful to Allah. That was a little bit about the history of our country. But, I might be forgetting some name! Wasn’t there Jinnah and his speech on 11th August about the newly formed nation and its function? Oh yes, he was! His address plays a pivotal role in the history of Pakistan. He addressed the constituent assembly and said that “the main concern should be law and order. The second concern he showed about was bribery and corruption.

He also said that you may belong to any religion, caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the state.” However, when he was asked by an American journalist about the newly formed country that what kind of democracy, Islamic or Western, shall be practiced in the country, his answer was: “we know what democracy is because we have been practicing democracy for the last fourteen hundred years.” Even he himself wasn’t sure what kind of country that is going to be? Sometimes I wonder that what if India wasn’t partitioned? Were Jinnah given any position in the national government?

Was Liaqat Ali Khan capable of holding the office of premiership in the United India? Was a paralyzed man like Malik Ghulam Muhammad allowed to enter the premises of any government office? Why? Because a man like Mowlana Abul Kalam Azad, who was a great statesman as well as a great scholar, was given the office of minister for education. I wonder that what if India had remained united? Was it partitioned because a certain faction of people wanted to rule in an area formed in the name of Islam? Or was it a part of grand conspiracy? Did the West see United India as a threat for the West?

Thus they incorporated some leaders for Muslims–exported leaders– and were made leaders for Muslims. Isn’t it ambiguous that Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and majority of its leaders were secular? If it was religious movement then why did the religious factions like JUI and JI oppose it? If it was created by secular people like Jinnah and Aga Khan then why do we always cry that it hasn’t been given the status–religious state– for which it was created? Is its history really simple or ambiguous or its plot has been made so linear? Or the history has been morphed? Or Pakistan is a heaven for certain elities who play with the feelings of innocent Pakistanis in the name of religion, patriotism, threat from enemy, threat from the other sect, etc?
